About us

We're on a mission to make action sports competitions better for the next generation.

Our founding story

Liveheats began in 2016 when ex-pro surfer Chris Friend invited software programmer Fernando Freire to a club-level surfing competition at Bondi Beach, Australia.

After seeing pen-and-paper scoring, whiteboard schedules and delayed results, they set out to reimagine the competition experience for organisers, athletes, and supporters.

Bondi Boardriders became the first club to adopt Liveheats, running live scoring and instant results on any device for the first time. Word spread quickly, and soon surf, skate, snow, and ocean racing competitions worldwide were using the platform.

Today, Liveheats powers 5,000+ events annually, engages 250,000+ monthly users, and is built by a global team of 21+. We’re proudly backed by world-class investors including Ben Richardson (Campaign Monitor), Joel Parkinson (World Champion Surfer), Trevor Folsom (Investible), and Rob Bell (86 400).
